Steve is the founding member of Olds-Kool. His love for music started at a young age, growing up in Detroit, Mich; where his dad made him take accordion lessons.
Then while in junior high school, Steve earned enough money from odd jobs to buy a used drum set. He played with a group of friends for about a year then was offered to join an established working band called "The Love Syndrome", but there was a catch, a new drum set was needed in order to join. So Steve went and spent his savings on a new Rogers drum set. The band lasted a couple of years and played at high schools, weddings, clubs, and Parties.
During these years Steve also learned some chords on the guitar and learned a few songs. From the time that Steve stopped playing drums and left Michigan in 1972 till about 1991 the guitar sat in the closet more than it was played.
After Steve and his wife left Hawaii and moved to Virginia, Steve was able to buy his first new electric guitar. He met up with a friend who happened to play keyboard and the 2 of them would get together and “jam” using a drum machine, this lasted for a few years.
After that, Steve would get together with different people and “jam” every now and then for the next 12 years. About 2004, he thought it was about time to try and get a band together. It took awhile to actually get people together for a band.
Finding potential band members became a little easier when Steve opened his music store “JV Music” in Berryville, VA.
The band Olds-Kool was formed in the spring of 2008.
Although Steve believes that when it comes to playing an instrument, your own influence, makes your own style of music, some of his favorite bands and guitar players are: Popa Chubby, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, David Gilmore, Gary Moore, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Doobie Brothers, Albert Collins, J Geils, Heart, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Winter, ZZ Top, Chicago, CCR, Frank Zappa, Santana, Eagles; etc.
